GATE Testing Announcement

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) identification testing for the 2024-2025 school year will be taking place in January 2024.

The GATE identification test will be administered at your student’s school site and is available for students currently in 3rd – 7th grade. Students who sign up to take the GATE identification test will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT), which tests abstract thinking and reasoning ability.

If you are interested in having your student take the OLSAT for GATE identification, please complete this GATE Parent Permission Form no later than November 3, 2023.

Permission forms will not be accepted after November 3rd, as materials and scheduling are based on the number of students who participate in testing. Please check the RCSD website for more information regarding GATE services and testing.  This information can be found by visiting rcsdk8.org → Main Menu → Programs → Gifted and Talented Education.

If you complete the form that is linked above, then you will be notified of your student’s scheduled testing date and time in December.

Please contact Rachel McCoy at rmccoy@rcsdk8.org with any questions regarding GATE testing.

Note: Students who are already GATE identified do not need to test again.

  • Encourage students to follow B.A.R.K expectations (Be safe, Accountable, Respectful, and Kind)

  • Encourage students to communicate with school staff as soon as possible if they witness or experience bullying and use StopIt or submit an Incident Report

  • Utilize Second Step curriculum and lessons each week during advisory period and encourage staff to integrate these concepts into their classroom environments

Creating an Inclusive & Respectful Campus Classroom Lessons: School counselors will be visiting 7/8th grade science classrooms October 16th and 17th and 6th grade social studies classrooms November 6-9th to deliver a classroom lesson on creating an inclusive and respectful campus. The lesson aims to help students develop a sense of acceptance, respect, support and inclusion for self and others in the school environment and create positive, respectful and supportive relationships with students who are similar to and different from them. The lesson will address empathy, using inclusive language on campus, and what to do if mistakes are made. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in this lesson or to opt your student out of this lesson please contact the School Counseling team at Buljan.
